Stob Ban and Mullach nan Coirean

An early(ish) start for the Mrs halfaseesaw and myself and this time we were off to the western end of the Mamore forest.
Stob Ban and Mullach nan Coirean from Kinlochleven.
Length: 12.9 miles  20.8 km, Ascent: +1640m, Naismith: 6h 53m

We parked in the Grey Mare's tail car park and followed the West Highland Way up into the Lairg, just after a larger bridge at NN167631 turn uphill an follow an old stalkers path, the 1:50000 map shows this stopping at about 750m but the 1:25000 map shows it running to the ridge where its end is marked by a large cairn. We turned left (west) and climbed Sgurr an Iubhair and descended to the bealach before Stob Ban. The sun came out for the climb up Stob Ban and we had good views over to Ben Nevis, Aonach Mor and Aonach Beag with the Grey Corries just visible through the haze. Turning north, a short descent brought us to the top of the North Ridge (Grade I in winter and on the todo list) and threafter it was an unchallenging walk along the ridge to Mullach nan Coirean.

Picking out the Pap of Glencoe we headed south to join the West Highland Way at Lairgmor. Back along the track took a couple of hours and a packet of fruit gums and a jelly bean or two. Home for 11pm.

First Blog

Well I thought I'd start blogging - it's an attempt to keep track of how things go in the hills....

I've signed up to do the summer Mountain Leader course with climbmts in Aberfeldy, and I will need to keep a record of all my QMDs (quality mountain days) until my assessment (whenever that will be).

So far I've purchased a new tent, compass, dry bags, map cases, books there is more but I can't remember just now.

Plans in the pipeline are to get to Skye, traverse the Rum cuillin, North Glen Shiel Ridge Glen Affric, Lake District, Borderes need to be explored too. The list is endless, it's so endless I've had to create a speadsheet to keep track of it all. Must be getting old.
